Mary M. Schmidt, a multifaceted writer and compassionate caregiver, has dedicated her life to exploring the depths of the human experience through her poetry and prose. Born in Washington, DC, Schmidt’s upbringing instilled in her a deep appreciation for the complexities of human nature and a desire to connect with others on a profound level.

After earning a BA in English from Notre Dame University, Schmidt’s literary journey began. Inspired by the works of classic poets like Dante, she embarked on her own exploration of the human condition, delving into the darker realms of existence and the complexities of the human psyche.

Schmidt’s passion for storytelling is deeply intertwined with her dedication to serving others. As a transitional care provider for a local hospice, she accompanies terminally ill patients on their final journeys, offering comfort and support in their most vulnerable moments. This profound experience has undoubtedly shaped her perspective and infused her writing with a unique empathy and understanding of the human experience.

Schmidt’s contributions to the community have not gone unnoticed. She was honored with the Jim Graham Award in 2002 for her exceptional care of the AIDS-afflicted community. Additionally, her narrative poem “Cat Lady” was recognized as one of Jaffalogue’s Picks in 2015, a testament to her talent and skill as a writer.

OUR FRAIL DISORDERED LIVES
